Manuscript Fair Copy in an unidentified hand, "Certain Resolutions respecting Independence being moved and seconded...," 4 pp, recto and verso, folio (conjoined leaves), n.p., n.d. (but after 1804), some separation at hinge, else fine. An early fair copy of proceedings of the Second Continental Congress, entries from June 7 - July 4, 1776. This is an abbreviated version of the proceedings, apparently recording only those entries that relate specifically to the resolutions leading up to the Declaration of Independence. The wording also differs considerably from the published version, which is based on the records kept by Charles Thomson In part: "Tuesday July 2nd 1776. The Congress resumed the consideration of the resolution reported from the Committee of the whole which was agreed to as follows: / Resolved, That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, Free and Independent States; that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British crown, and that all political connexion between them & the state of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved ... Resolved, that this Congress will to morrow again resolve itself into a Committee of the whole, to take into their further consideration the Declaration respecting Independence." Paper watermarked "P.A. Mesier." Peter A. Mesier’s earliest imprint appears to be 1804.
