Beschreibung:

contemporary cloth, original wrappers bound in, Leipzig, 1900 § Goder (Willi) & others. Johann Friedrich Böttger Die Erfindung des Europäisches Porzellans, Leipzig, 1982 § Seyffarth (Richard) Joann Gregorius Höroldt, Dresden, 1981, illustrations, the last two original cloth with dust-jackets, all a little rubbed; and 13 others on Böttger and Meissen craftsmen, some pamphlets, 4to & 8vo (16) *** Böttger was a chemist who, with Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus, is credited with having discovered the method of manufacturing European hard-paste porcelain in the early eighteenth century. Until then Europe had imported porcelain from China and Japan at huge expense so Europeans were deperate to produce it themselves. The Meissen factory was established in 1710 with Böttger first developing a hard red stoneware "Böttgersteinzeug" and later hard-paste white porcelain which could be glazed. J.G.Höroldt was the main designer and decorator for the factory and Johann Joachim Kändler became the most famous sculptor of the rococo figurines.
