Bound and hand-tooled by Cuala printer Esther Ryan (see label at rear) in full dark brown smooth morocco, laced around edges, upper cover with title and design of young singer elegantly embossed in blind. The lacing very slightly rubbed but generally in excellent order. Signed and inscribed on verso of preliminary leaf, 'For Esther Ryan / Jack B. The broadsides in original condition throughout, untrimmed, in excellent condition, with the hand colouring fresh and bright. The binding is thoroughly competent, opening easily at every page. A unique, superb and most desirable set of this splendid publication, edited and illustrated throughout by Jack B. Yeats himself, and with contribution by leading writers including James Stephens, Lady Gregory, Douglas Hyde John Masefield, Seamus O'Sullivan & others, as well as many old ballads. The full set contains over 100 hand coloured drawings by Yeats, as well as larger drawings on the central pages which are mostly uncoloured. Most of these drawings have never been re-published. Complete Sets of the Broadsides are rare; to our knowledge no set with Yeat's signature has been on the market for many years, - let alone a set hand-bound at Cuala by a long-serving member of staff.
