Compendium deprecationum . Venice: Antonius de Zanchis, 14 July 1498. Chancery 8 o (138 x 90 mm). Collation: s8 a-z 8 8 8 8 A-P 8 (r title, v blank, v blank, P8v blank). 336 leaves. 20 lines. Printed in red and black in two impressions, red first. Type: 2:97G. Woodcut Lombard initials. A few 2- to 4-line initial spaces, the first with printed guide-letter. (A few corners lightly thumb-soiled, a few minor marginal repairs.) 18th-century mottled sheep, scarlet silk liners, gilt edges, gauffered at bands. Provenance : William Littleton: armorial bookplate -- [Sotheby's, 12 April 1927, lot 480, to Quaritch] -- Otto Orren Fisher: bookplate; Swann Galleries, 3 November 1983, lot 47. VERY RARE -- ONE OF ONLY 4 COPIES KNOWN of this collection of prayers. Antonius de Zanchis is known to have printed or published only nine incunable editions, all liturgical or homiletic, and almost all surviving in only a handful of copies. His is the only 15th-century edition of the Compendium deprecationum . The other three surviving copies are at Padua University Library (imperfect), Hamilton College Library at Clinton, New York, and Esztergom, Hungary. R 1703; IGI 3113; Sajó-Soltész 2469; Goff C-790.
