4 pp. newspaper. 56.8x43 cm (22¼x17") with horizontal fold. Earthquake edition, with breaking news if the calamity that struck both sides of the Bay, but especially San Francisco. The bold headline reads: "Earthquake And Fire: San Francisco In Ruins." Due to the destruction of the presses in San Francisco, three separate and competing newspapers combined under one masthead for this issue, printing this day’s paper across the bay on the presses of the Oakland Tribune. Accompanied by a photocopy of a handwritten note by the late husband of the consignor: "August Schutt was a linotype operator or typesetter for the Oakland newspaper that printed the San Francisco Call=Chronicle=Examiner on April 19, 1906. He saved these newspapers that I bought at an estate sale at the Schutt House on Hazel St. Oakland (or maybe Berkeley)."
