COLONIAL AMERICA.] WARWICK, Robert Rich Earl of (1587-1658). Lord High Admiral, governor-in-chief of all the plantations . Document signed ("Warwick"), counter-signed by Dudley North, John Rolle, John Trevor and Alexander Bence. London, 20 August 1646. 1p., folio, closed tears at creases and across Bence's signature, chipped at right edge . An order to the commissioners of the Navy to appoint John Coxe in place of John Bromfield as Master Gunner on the ship John . Warwick, as president of the New England Company, signed the patent to William Bradford for Plymouth Plantation and procured Endecott's 1628 patent for the Massachusetts Bay colony. -- OGLETHORPE, James (1698-1785), Founder of Georgia . Autograph receipt signed ("J. Oglethorpe"), 6 January 1727. 1 p., oblong, laid down . A receipt of Messrs. Woodward for £31, 10s, on account. -- [PENN, William.] LLOYD, Thomas. Autograph letter signed ("Tho: Lloyd") to Gov. William Penn, also signed by William Welch, New York, 23 February 1684. 1 page, 4to, losses at fold and at lower edge catching several lines of text, stained, creases repaired with archival tape, two later notes pasted on to blank integral leaves . AN EARLY, VAIN ATTEMPT TO RESOLVE THE PENNSYLVANIA-MARYLAND BORDER DISPUTE. A report from Lloyd--the president of the Provincial Council of Pennsylvania--and William Welch, about their mission on Penn's behalf to approach Governor Dongan of New York to enlist his aid in mediating the dispute. Lloyd and Welch report that Dongan seems ill-disposed towards Penn's request but that they are awaiting the governor's official response. They expect it to be not "so satisfactory as we could desire. We find that [Baltimore's emissary Col.] Talbot's being here before us has much prejudiced thy affairs..." Not until the Mason-Dixon line in 1767 was this vexatious dispute settled. -- PARTRIDGE, William. Document signed ("Wm. Partridge"), as Lt. Governor, 3 July 1701. 1p., oblong (7½ x 12in.), paper seal at top left . A writ addressed to Richard Joss, sheriff, directing him to call an election on 14 August in the town of Hampton, to select deputies for the General Assembly. Together 4 items . (4)
