78 pamphlets, military leaves and various paper items printed by IDF units and civilian defense units, most from the War of Independence period and the War of Attrition period. Israel, late 1940s to mid-1950s (a few items from the 1960s). Hebrew. Items include: · 36 battalion and brigade bulletins and pamphlets from the War of Independence period. These include: an issue of "BaMahane" from September 2, 1948 (its first issue as the "Israel Soldiers' Newspaper"); bulletin no. 7 of the 51st Battalion (apparently confiscated due to the article "HaCherut" [Freedom] by Moshe Peli); the only issue of the "Transportation Corps Bulletin" from 1949; and more. · Three issues of "Kol Tsfat", May 1948, April 1948 and May 1949. · 16 military leaves, including: 3 issues of "BeChativa 6" - journal of the Jerusalem Brigade from July-August 1948; military leaf from May 1949 calling on IDF soldiers to refrain from unseemly behavior towards the enemy, and more. Some of the pamphlets are classified "restricted", and a few are marked "destroy after reading". · 12 items of the "IDF Culture Service" in pocket format, including: "On Fear under Fire" - psychological guide for combat soldiers in wartime; "Choose a Hebrew Name" - collection of Hebrew names for new immigrants; three novels from the series "Pocket Library for the Hebrew Soldier", and more. · "1948 Passover" booklet - a pioneer-IDF variation on the Passover haggadah, with a division of reading portions according to military positions, a toast honoring the "Haganah", and more, with decorations by Arieh Allweil. · Issue of "Dapim LaMadrich" [Guide Leaves]of "Hazit HaNoar" [The Youth Front], the youth movement of the Lehi Group, including directives for the movement's instructors during the few months when the movement was legal. · Palmach proclamation (Yiddish), addressed to the new immigrant and presenting the unit's history and achievements. · Two booklets of the Mapam party, printed in 1948, one addressed to Israel's soldiers and the other to "the young recruits", both conveying a radical anti-imperialist message.
