Inscribed and signed by Tillinghast, on the front free endpaper: "Louis Livingston who, through long association with golf and golfers, knows Cobble Valley types quite as well as the author. A.W. Tillinghast." Below that is written, "To James Hauley(?), I pass on Tilly's stories to show that in 40 years golf has changed more than golfers. 2-21-58."
