Lot of 3 cartes, the highlight being a studio portrait of a pair of drinking ruffians, the figure standing at right wearing a PROTECTION belt, while the hard-looking man seated beside him poses with bottle in hand. Their appearance is comparable to that of ca 1860s gang members. CDV with Charles Foedisch, Honesdale, PA backmark. The lot is accompanied by a portrait of an anonymous invalid in "working dress," with inked caption below portrait stating: After having fever & ague for 3 mos. Taken in my working dress. With a Matteson, Middletown, PA backmark. Also included is a portrait of an unidentified naval officer, ca 1880s, with a Sarony, Broadway, NY backmark and verso inscription, Friend, E. Biondi. Condition: Toning to cdv of drinking ruffians; corners of carte have been trimmed. Anonymous invalid cdv with trimmed corners.
