CIVIL WAR BASEBALL GAME After capturing the fort from Confederate forces Company G of the 48th Regiment, New York State Volunteers, brought the New York game of ball to the deep South. This photograph is one of the earliest game scenes known. The photograph was ostensibly taken of the Regiment members who pose in the foreground in full dress uniform. Between the buildings of the fort and the posed soldiers, the game is being played. All but the pitcher wear northern blue. The albumen photograph is 8 x 6 inches and below, on the mount, is printed "CO. G 48TH REG T N.Y.S. VOLS. CAPT. ANTHONY ELMENDORF FT. PULASKI GA." The only known photographic illustration of the game during the war. Light peripheral staining, overall excellent condition.
