CHURCHILL, Winston S. Typed letter signed ("Winston S. Churchill") to Alfred Duff Cooper, Chartwell, Kent, 18 June 1933. 1 page, 4to, Chartwell stationery . Churchill asks Duff Cooper to read over the first eleven chapters of Marlborough (presumably the first volume, which appeared in October 1933). "It will be very kind of you to read them for me and I shall greatly welcome any suggestions or corrections especially on a large scale, or any criticisms constructive or corrective." -- CHURCHILL. Typed letter signed ("W."), to Alfred Duff Cooper, London, 1 December 1947. 2 pages, 4to, Hyde Park Gate stationery, punch holes and paperclip burn top left corners . CHURCHILL PREPARES FOR A MARRAKESH JUNKET, and designates his entourage: "My party will be Sarah [his daughter] and Colonel Bill Deakin, whom I think you know. He is an Oxford don who distinguished himself in the war, rising from Second Lieutenant in the Oxbridgeshire Hussars to Colonel, and, in the Foreign office, to Chargé d'Affaires at Belgrade. He helps me in my book...In addition there are two secretaries, a valet and a detective..." Churchill's American publishers picked up the tabs for these lavish working holidays, on which Churchill--with Deakins's assistance--composed much of his Second World War memoirs. Together 2 items .
