CHURCHILL BATTLES THE TAX MAN in this letter to the American IRS, requesting “thast an extension of time be granted to me for filing my individual United States income tax returns for the calendar years 1959, 1961 and 1962…I am a citizen of and resident in the United Kingdom and I am not engaged in trade or business in the United States…” Churchill received U.S. income in connection from the television documentary adaptation of his Second World War memoir, but was originally told by his tax advisors that neither U.K. nor U.S. taxes would be due. “Within the past few months, it has come to my attention that a portion of the payments received…may be taxable in the United States…” [ With :] CHURCHILL.
