Laid down in an 8 o , brown leather autograph album that ALSO CONTAINS THE SIGNATURES OF 62 FAMOUS POLITICAL, MILITARY AND ENTERTAINMENT FIGURES. CHURCHILL, ROOSEVELT AND STALIN together with an extraordinary assemblage of World War II-era autographs, compiled by Nicholas Eden (2nd Earl of Avon). The card with the signatures of the Big Three is inscribed by Churchill at top "For Nicholas." The proximity of this card to a similar card with the signature of the Turkish statesman Ismet Inonu suggests that it was signed at the Teheran Conference of 28 November - 1 December 1943. The Second Cairo conference, which Inonu, (but not Stalin) also attended, followed a few days later. Other signatures include King George VI and Elizabeth (the late Queen Mother), along with A SECOND STALIN AUTOGRAPH, this one in pencil, on a card along with Molotov and [Stalin's translator Valentin Berezhkov]; Dwight D. Eisenhower (clipped signature); George C. Marshall; Anthony Eden, Clement Attlee, Robert Menzies (1948); Ernest Bevan; Jan Smuts; Field Marshall Archibald Wavell; Nelson A. Rockefeller; Henry A. Wallace; Cordell Hull; Henry Morgenthau, Jr., James Forrestal; Robert Sherwood and others; along with numerous show business luminaries such as Noel Coward; Mary Pickford; David Niven ("Niv the Spiv"); Mary Martin and Maurice Chevalier. The only other example of a document signed by Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin to appear at auction was a 10-ruble banknote signed at Yalta on 5 February 1945, sold at Sotheby's, New York, 22 June 1981, lot 276. Provenance : Nicholas Eden; sale Christies, London, 2 Dec. 2003, lot 86.
