Black and white photograph, 9 x 11 3/8in., on a mount measuring 14½ x 16 1/8in. . 40 signatures on left, right, and bottom margin of mount. CHURCHILL, BALFOUR , BALDWIN AND THE 1926 IMPERIAL CONFERENCE. A fine signed photograph of Churchill also signed by leading British and Commonwealth politicians, such as Arthur James Balfour, 1st earl of Balfour (1848-1930) (signed, "Balfour," on lower margin of mount), author of the famous 1914 Balfour Declaration that lent official support to the creation of a Jewish homeland in Palestine--a cause which Churchill also strongly supported throughout his career. Balfour, who was Lord President of Council, sits six places to the left of Churchill, who is third from the left in the first row. Other luminaries whose images and signatures appear here are: Stanley Baldwin, AS PRIME MINISTER ("Stanley Baldwin"), Austen Chamberlain, Lord Ismay, Desmond Fitzgerald Lord Birkenhead, and MacKenzie King. This 1926 conference produced another Balfour declaration concerning the status of the Dominions: "They are autonomous Communities within the British Empire, equal in status, in no way subordinate one to another in any aspect of their domestic or external affairs, though united by a common allegiance to the Crown, and freely associated as members of the British Commonwealth of Nations."
