FIRST EDITIONS, EACH VOLUME INSCRIBED AND SIGNED ON FLYLEAF TO HIS ELDEST DAUGHTER DIANA CHURCHILL (1909-1963): v.1 "Diana from Papa 4 March 1956"; v.2 "To Diana from her Father Winston S. Churchill 1956"; v.3 "Diana from Winston S. Churchill October 1957"; v.4 "To Diana from her loving Father Winston S. Churchill March 1958." A set of warm inscriptions to his troubled eldest daughter. After a brief early marriage and wartime service in the WRENS, Diana married Tory M.P. Duncan Sandys in 1945 and the couple had three children before divorcing in 1960. Long beset by depression, Diana's health declined precipitously after her divorce and in 1963 she took her own life. Woods A138(a). (4)
