CHURCHILL, Winston S. Autograph letter signed ('Winston S.C.') to Max [Aitken, 1st Baron Beaverbrook], Chartwell, 28 December 1926, 3½ pages, 8vo (punch holes).
CHURCHILL, Winston S. Autograph letter signed ('Winston S.C.') to Max [Aitken, 1st Baron Beaverbrook], Chartwell, 28 December 1926, 3½ pages, 8vo (punch holes). A RINGING STATEMENT OF HIS CONFIDENCE IN THE FUTURE. Churchill sends thanks for a letter, '& the cigars to wch I will do full justice', and expresses his deep regard for Beaverbrook: 'I feel the full attraction of yr vivid, genial, loyal & dominating personality ... The difficulty of my being in the centre of a Gov[ernmen]t to wch you have every right to be opposed, has I rejoice to think ceased to be any obstacle to our personal intimacy'. He insists on the value and importance of maintaining their friendship in spite of political differences, and goes on with a ringing statement of his confidence in the future and their ability to shape it: 'Personally I have so far enjoyed life more every year. But I do not think that wd continue if I felt that the future was closed or cabined ... There are vy great things to be done by those who reach a certain scale of comprehension & of power in their early prime'. Writings of Sir Winston Churchill © Estate of Winston S. Churchill
