Provenance : Pamela, Countess of Lytton; and by descent. 'How precious memories are!'. Churchill is spurred to write by the death of a friend, and by a letter from Pamela, whose 'handwriting gladdened my heart ... My dear how precious memories are! I seem rejuvenated to read what you have sent me'. His time is spent in dawdling and he has not yet painted: 'Does the Riviera attract you at all? If so, let me know'.
