Chungking 1894 Second Issue Covers 1894 (Nov.) Captain Binns envelope to Shanghai bearing horizontal pair of 2ca. [7-8] in bright orange-red, cancelled by fine strikes of the small circle "chungking/local post" in violet; alongside there is a light strike of the Shanghai Local Post "paid" in circle (type SP IV) in red and, on the reverse, the Shanghai Local Post c.d.s. (7.11) struck in blue. Covers bearing the second issue stamps are exceedingly scarce and this is believed to be one of only two covers used in combination with the Shanghai Paid handstamp. Photo provenance: E.N Lane, October 1987 At this time, Chungking was not a office of the Shanghai Local Post system and 1c. per ounce was paid to the Shanghai Local Post when this cover received the Paid handstamp
