Verd Antique, Poems, 1st edition, Oxford, Basil Blackwell, 1920, untrimmed, original pale green printed wrappers, with author's presentation inscription to half-title 'Lady Ottoline Morrell with the compliments of the author', together with Fantasia, 1st edition, Oxford, Holywell Press, 1921, untrimmed, original printed wrappers, very slightly rubbed and browned to spine and upper margin of upper cover, author's presentation inscription to first leaf 'To the Lady Ottoline Morrell with the sincere regards of the author Nov. 27th 1921', plus Lyrics, 1st edition, printed for private circulation, Oxford, Holywell Press, 1992, untrimmed, original orange printed wrappers, frayed and chipped to spine with slight loss, edges darkened, author's presentation inscription to upper cover 'Lady Ottoline Morrell from the author Feb. 1923', and with an author's handwritten letter loosely inserted to Lady Ottoline, dated February 6th 1923, 4 pages, describing his travels in Italy, and referring to Oxford, and sense of spiritual alienation, and 3 other books of poetry by William Force Stead: Wayfaring Songs and Elegies, 1st edition, 1924, Four Poems, Oxford, 1928 & Uriel, A Hymn in Praise of Divine Immanence, 1st edition, Cobden-Sanderson, 1933, each inscribed to Lady Ottoline Morrell by the author, the first and third bound in original cloth, the latter with dust jacket, all slim 8vo William Force Stead (1884-1967) was an American Diplomat and Poet who became Anglican Clergyman and Chaplain of Worcester College, Oxford. He is best known for his editorial work on the poet Christopher Smart. He was born in Washington D.C. and educated at the University of Virginia. A student at Queen's College, Oxford, during the first world war, he was ordained and spent some time in Italy during the early 1920s before returning to Oxford as a fellow at Worcester College. (6)
