Published as the Act directs, 29 Sepr. 1795], engraved wooden jigsaw puzzle after Robert Dighton twenty-four (of 25) pieces each with oval scene illustrating a proverb (except one with portrait of Benjamin Franklin , lacking edge pieces and fourth oval from left on second horizontal row, toned and slightly rubbed, with some minor surface loss, each piece 11.5 x 9cm (4.5 x 3.5ins), divided into four groups (one of ten pieces, two of five, and one of four), each in matching frames, glazed Hannas, pp.114-15 (plate 10): 'The varied and detailed scenes of town and country life make this an exceptionally interesting puzzle'. Rare: whilst copies of this engraving as a broadside, or mounted on linen and folded into cloth boards, appear at auction occasionally, the only other copy we have traced in the form of a jigsaw is that in the collection of Linda Hannas.
