Beschreibung:

The Infant's Cabinet of Trades, Pubd Octr 3 1801, twenty-eight hand-coloured engraved cards showing various marine creatures (a little dusty), complete, 74 x 47cm (3 x 2ins), and two explanatory miniature books entitled A History of Fishes, each with gilt patterned paper-covered boards (orange and blue respectively) and engraved paper label on upper side, text block of second volume detached from binding, 48 x 39cm (2 x 1.5ins), housed together in original wooden box, lined with pink paper, hand-coloured engraved label on sliding lid (rubbed) Rare. Not in Osborne or Gumuchian. We have not traced another copy sold at auction, and the only set we have been able to locate is that in the Opie Collection, Bodleian Library, Oxford: 'An example of the very rare series of boxed educational games'. Bondy (pp.60/1) lists two other titles in this series: 'The Infant's Cabinet of Various Objects' and 'The Infant's Cabinet of the Cries of London', but makes no mention of the current title. The cards include scenes of herring fishing and whale hunting. (1)
