Beschreibung:

CHILDREN'S ILLUSTRATION ART] ROJANOVSKY, FEODOR STEPANOVICH. Group of ten original watercolors , designs for The Giant Golden Book of Cat Stories by Elizabeth Coatsworth. The published work was issued by Golden Books in 1953. Various sizes from 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm) to 12 x 9 inches (30 x 23 cm), highly finished watercolors over pencil outlines. Fine condition, displayed in five frames, some with several pieces to a frame. Rojanovsky, a Russian emigre artist, is highly regarded for his children's illustration. He received a Caldecott medal in 1956 for his illustrations for Frog Went A-Courtin' retold by John Langstaff (Harcourt). His 1931 illustrations for Daniel Boone (his first published work for children) remain memorable, and were a significant milestone in the development of the modern children's illustrated book. He was also known for his erotic art. His work for children is quite rare on the market, and this is a very attractive group indeed. Sold with a printed publisher's maquette for the cover artwork. C
