CHAUNCY, Henry (1632-1719). The Historical Antiquities of Hertfordshire, London: Benjamin Griffin [and others], 1700. 2° (367 x 233mm). Engraved portrait frontispiece, title printed in red and black, folding engraved map, 42 engraved plates (?only, of 44), almost all double-page or folding. (Blank corner of frontispiece torn away and repaired, map laid down and torn at one corner with loss, a few leaves browned, a few plates cropped, a few plates laid down and repaired at outer edge with slight loss, occasional light spotting and staining, a few tears.) 18th-century diced calf gilt (rebacked, rubbed and scuffed). Provenance : Lord W. Kerr (book label). See references to lot 33. Contains two of the three plates usually "usually wanting" (Lowndes) but lacks the plate of Standon Lordship at p. 220.
