Château Mouton-Rothschild--Vintage 1945
12 bottles per lot
Château Mouton-Rothschild--Vintage 1945 Pauillac, 1er cru classé Lightly damp-stained labels, five with remains of original tissues stuck to them. Levels: two top, three just below top-shoulder, four upper, two mid/upper and one mid-shoulder Tasting note: A consistent 100-point wine (only because my point scale stops at that number), the 1945 Mouton-Rothschild is truly one of the immortal wines of the century. This wine is easily identifiable because of its remarkably exotic, over-ripe, sweet nose of black fruits, coffee, tobacco, mocha, and Asian spices. It is an extraordinarily dense, opulent, and rich wine, with layers of creamy fruit, behaveing more like a 1947 Pomerol than a structured, powerful, and tannic 1945. The wine finishes with a 60+ second display of ripe fruit, extract, and sweet tannin. This remarkably youthful wine (only light amber at the edge) is mindboggling! Will it last another 50 years? Robert Parker Jan 1998 Tasting note: One of the greatest clarets of all time, certainly the most distinctive. Dozens of notes made since 1954, 10 within the last 2 years. Virtually identical notes made in the autumn of 2005: still impressively deep with a jewel-like ruby sheen; inimitably exotic bouquet, an eruption of spice, eucalyptus, lavender and violets; amazingly sweet, wonderful fruit, concentrated yet vivacious, crisp, endless length. Still tannic. 6 stars ! Seemingly indestructible. Michael Broadbent M.W., Nov 2005 12 bottles per lot
