Pourtant, malgré l'excellence du cru, aucun membre de la famille ne s'y intéressa véritablement jusqu'en 1922 quand, âgé de 20 ans le Baron Philippe, décida de prendre en mains les destinées du domaine. Les 65 années de son règne furent marquées par sa forte personnalité et son sens de l'innovation.En 1945, pour célébrer la libération, le Baron Philippe eut l'idée de couronner l'étiquette de ce millésime par un dessin approprié. Ce fut le début de la passionnante collection d'oeuvres originales créées chaque année par des artistes célèbres. En 1973, Château Mouton-Rothschild devint officiellement un Premier Grand Cru Classé. En 1988, la Baronne Philippine de Rothschild, prit en mains les destinées du Château. Aujourd'hui maintenir et innover sont les principes de son action.
