Château L'Evangile--Believed Vintage 1950
8 bottles per lot
Château L'Evangile--Believed Vintage 1950 Pomerol Believed Château-bottled, no vintage on label. One bottle opened to reveal vintage 1950 printed on cork. Though the lowest level, the wine was in good condition Very badly bin-soiled and stained labels, two signs of seepage. One corroded capsule, one depressed cork. Levels: one just below top-shoulder, three upper, three mid/upper and one mid-shoulder Last Tasted 8/92 Tasting note: I may be the only person to extol the virtues of the 1950 Pomerols. It was clearly a stunning vintage. This is another terrific 1950. The nearly opaque color is followed by a backward, closed nose that, with coaxing, offers up aromas of sweet black-raspberries, grilled nuts, and leather. In the mouth, this full-bodied wine reveals spectacular concentration, plenty of tannin, crisp acidity, and a long, surprisingly backward, youthful finish. Believe it or not, this wine is not yet ready for prime time drinking! It should actually improve over the next 10-15 years. Robert Parker Wine Advocate 8 bottles per lot
