AN OUTSTANDING COLLECTION OF GRAND CRUS At NYWines/Christie's, we often travel to visit our clients to see their cellars, to get a better understanding of both the size of the collection and more importantly the quality of the storage conditions. The condition of this collection is one of the most impressive that I have seen in a long time, to call it "mint" would not do it enough justice! These wines have been taken care of in a very meticulous fashion to ensure their ultimate drinking pleasures. The wine cellar itself is located in the basement of an old historic house here in the northeast. It is a naturally cold and damp limestone cellar. The actual wine cave has a state of the art climate controlled unit installed to insure optimum storage conditions, 55 degrees F and 70 humidity. The wines were bought upon release and have remained untouched until we collected them for this sale. This avid collector, with an eye for only the best Grand Crus, started out his wine collecting with an interest in German wines (of which he has decided to part with a few gems). As he explored and learned, more of his attention turned to France and his palate took a liking to red and white Burgundy. Deciding that he only wanted to buy the absolute crème de la crème of wines available, he sought out a reputable retailer that could provide him with his favorite producer; Domaine de la Romanée Conti. Bearing this in mind, the vast majority of the wines featured here came exclusively from the same respected source. In selecting some of the highlights in this collection it is hard to know where to start. The Bordeaux selection alone is filled with many of the most sought after classic clarets such as Pétrus 1947, Haut Brion 1953, Margaux 1959, Mouton 1961, Cheval Blanc 1982, a full case of half bottles of D'Yquem 1976. The selection of Burgundy is breathtaking, a stunning collection Domaine Leroy from the 1940s and 1950s, Domaine de la Romanée Conti is represented by multiple vintages of Romanée Conti, four solid cases af La Tâche 1971, a case of 12 magnums of 1971 Romanée St. Vivant, an assortment case of 1976 and last but not least a ultra rare 12 bottles of Montrachet 1978 in original wooden case. As often happens with collections, one reaches a point when one realizes that there is only so much wine one can consume, which is the reason for this collector to part with some of his precious wines. This is a unique opportunity to acquire perfectly stored rare wines. Per Holmberg Château La Mission-Haut-Brion--Vintage 1924 Talence (Graves), cru classé Levels: one very top and one top shoulder; bin soiled labels 2 bottles per lot
