CHATEAU HAUT-BRION Château Haut-Brion possède l'une des plus riches histoires des Premiers Crus de Bordeaux. Le 23 avril 1525, Jean De Pontac par son mariage avec Jeanne de Bellon, devient le propriétaire de terres au lieu dit de Haut-Brion, dans la commune de Pessac, et en 1549 d©buta la construction du Château. A la fin du XVIIeme siècle, les vins du Château Haut-Brion sont connues à travers l'Europe. En Angleterre, la première mention du nom de Haut-Brion et de la qualité du vin est donnáe par Samuel Pepys, qui dégusta le vin, le 10 avril 1663, à la Royal Oak Tavern à Londres: "et là, je bus une sorte de vin Francais appelé Ho-Bryan (sic) qui avait un bon goût très particulier que je n'avais jamais rencontré.." Dans une lettre à John Bonfield, un courtier, Thomas Jefferson écrivit:" Haut-Brion est un vin de première classe et semble satisfaire le palais des Américains plus que tout autre vin que j'ai pu déguster en France" Aussi de nombreuses notes confirment que les vins de Haut-Brion furent servis à la Maison Blanche par le Président Jefferson, mais aussi les présidents Washington, Madison et Monroe Près d'un demi-siècle plus tard, Haut-Brion recoit une reconnaissance mérité en entrant comme Premier Cru dans la classification officielle de 1855. Déja en 1870, les vins du Château Haut-Brion sont vendus pour 5 Livres Sterling la bouteille (soit environ 25 Dollars à l'époque), ce qui représente en valeur constante, environ cinq fois le prix d'aujourd'hui. Un siècle plus tard, Le Château Haut-Brion est désormais la propriété du Duc et la Duchesse de Mouchy; le domaine étant gérée par Monsieur Jean Delmas qui continue à améliorer le vignoble et la qualité des vins. Château Haut-Brion has one of the richest histories of all Bordeaux First Growth. On April 23rd, 1525, Jean de Pontac, by his marriage to Jeanne de Bellon, became the owner of Haut-Brion, in the commune of Pessac and 1549, begins to build the Château which is a part of the present building. At the end of the 17th century, the fame of Haut-Brion wine spread throughout Europe. In England some famous authors praised its qualities such as Samuel Pepys, the most famous of the Diarists, tasted the wine on April 10, 1663 at the Royal Oak Tavern in London: " There I drank a sort of French wine called Ho-Bryan (Sic) which hath a good and most particular taste which I never before encountered ". In a letter to John Bondfield, a broker, Thomas Jefferson wrote: 'Haut-Brion is a wine of the first rank and seems to please the American palate more than all the others that I have been able to taste in France'. Some note proved that the wines of Haut-Brion were served at the White House not only by Jefferson when he was President, but by Presidents Washington, Madison and Monroe as well. Half a century later, Haut-Brion get recognation by entering the 1st growth in the official classification of 1855. Already in 1870, the wine of Haut-Brion sold for 5 pounds sterling a bottle (almost 25 dollars at that time), which, in constant values, is about five times today's price. Today, another century later, Château Haut-Brion is owned by the Duc and the Duchesse de Mouchy and managed by the very well-known Mr Jean Delmas who continue to improve the vineyard and the quality of the wines through innovative idea and new developments.
