AN OUTSTANDING, MATURE WHITE BURGUNDY RANGE FROM THE CELLARS OF A WELL-KNOWN EUROPEAN COLLECTOR This collection of white Burgundy was put together over more than 30 years by a regular visitor to Burgundy, with direct links to many of its greatest estates. The wines have been stored since purchase in a cellar which the owner built himself in the 1980s - and have not moved since, until shipped for this sale. The owner is a true wine lover, who built his collection for drinking rather than investment. It includes great runs of Corton-Charlemagne from Bonneau du Martray, Chablis from René & Vincent Dauvissat, and a varied range of appellations from one of Puligny-Montrachet's greatest estates, Louis Carillon. There are fine vintages from Joseph Drouhin, including Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche. Grands Crus from Louis Latour include Corton-Charlemagne, as might be expected, but also Montrachet, and Bâtard-Montrachet 1978. The dynamic Meursault grower Patrick Javillier is a particular favourite of this consignor. His estate features many of the best, hillside vineyards which are situated on stony, low-yielding land uphill from the village's First Growths (Narvaux, Casse-Tête, Tillets), or on a swathe of hillside where it swings northwards (Clos du Cromin). From Chassagne-Montrachet, there is a fascinating array of great bottles from Domaine Ramonet, as well as 7 mature vintages of Montrachet Baron Thénard. From Puligny-Montrachet, all of Domaine Etienne Sauzet's greatest wines are represented, and there are also fine examples from the rarely-seen Domaine Paul Pernot (most of whose wines are still acquired by major Beaune merchants). This owner also pin-pointed several stars, before they became visible in the firmament. For instance Guffens-Heynen in Pouilly-Fuissé (3 vintages from the mid-1980s) or Corotn-Charlemagne 1985, from Tollot-Beaut. I cannot close without mentioning some bottles of Montrachet from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Bidding is likely to be highly competitive for the 10 bottles of 1978. But then, I suspect that bidding will be highly competitive for the majority of these outstanding Lots. I urge you to send in your Bids early, for, if it is not overtaken, the first bid to be received at any level wil always take the Lot. Anthony Hanson MW Senior Director DOMAINE BACHELET-RAMONET There are many Bachelets in Chassagne-Montrachet, but none has such an array of fine holdings in the great vineyards - Grand Crus as well as Premiers Crus - as this. The Domaine has always been better known for its white wines than its reds. The grandfather of the current generation was a pioneer of direct sales from the vineyard.
