Bohn, 1844. 6 parts [years 1839-44] in 2 volumes, small 8°, engraved frontispiece and additional title to each part, 64 engraved plates, after W. Barraud, R.B. Davis, A. Cooper, J.F. Herring, E. Landseer and others (occasional spotting to plates), original green cloth with gilt vignettes (vol. II rubbed and faded, lower corners bumped). Provenance : C.F.G.R. Schwerdt (bookplates). A reprint of the Oracle of Rural Life , 1839-44, with printed title to each issue as well as general title in each volume. Schwerdt II, p. 52, describing this copy: "Rare in this complete state"; cf. Padwick 180 (1840 with "Laws of Cricket" pp. 87-89). [LAWRENCE, John]. The Sportsman's Calendar; or, Monthly Remembrancer of Field Diversions . FIRST EDITION of this "useful epitome" with an account of cock-fighting (pp. 141-44), a "fishing table" (pp. 150-53), and an appendix on "the merciful treatment of all brute animals" (pp. 157-68).
