CHARLES II (1630-1685), King of England . Document on vellum, Dublin, 20 January 1668, letters patent granting to Cary, Lord Viscount Baltinglass, 1,390 acres 3 roods and 7 perches of land (English statute measure) in the Barony of Barretts and County of Cork, to be held in common socage for a yearly rent of £13 9s, engraved initial letter portrait of the King, hand-coloured (170 x 140mm), upper margin engraved with the royal arms, with the lion and unicorn as well as roses, thistles, a tulip, butterflies, a dragonfly and other decorative elements, hand-coloured, first line with engraved ornamental capitals, in English on vellum, one membrane, approx 640 x 750mm (some rubbing to portrait and elsewhere), Great Seal of Ireland pendant on silk chords (seal broken with some losses); framed and glazed (unexamined out of frame).

The grant is issued on the advice of Thomas, 6th Earl of Ossory, deputy general and general governor of Ireland, and of Sir Edward Smyth Chief Justice of the Common Pleas in Ireland, Sir Edward Dering, Sir Winston Churchill and Edward Cooke, commissioners for putting into execution the act 'for the better execution of his Maiesties gracious Declaration for the settlement of his kingdom of Ireland & satisfaction of the severall Interest of Adventureres Souldiers & other his Subiect there' and a related act.
