CHARLES II (1630-1685) One-page document, signed 'Charles P' at the head, from Helford Sluce, 23 July 'ye 24th year of ye raigne of our Royall Father ye King' [1648], 8, to 'our trustie and wellbeloved Mr Richard Foord, of Rotterdam Marchant.', asking for a loan of four hundred pounds 'in this time of great necessitye', requesting that he pay it to Doctor Steephen Gough and undertaking to pay it back 'by any meanes wee shall bee inabled thereunto'. He concludes by assuring him of complete confidence in this matter 'we shall alsoe bee obliged to bee mindfull upon all occasions for your advantage of soe great and soe reasonable a service', impressed seal, framed and glazed (slightly stained, creased on folds).
