Chaim Stephenson (1926 - 2016) The Warrior, created 1971 Bronze Resin over Metal Armature, Unique 161cm high, 59cm wide, 51cm deep On view at: The Sculpture Park Born Harry in 1926 to Russian immigrant parents, Stephenson spent a period in the mines as a Bevin boy in Manchester at the end of the Second World War. Afterwards he fought through the first Arab-Israeli war, changing his name to Chaim upon his move to Israel. He returned to the newly-established Kibbutz Yasur in Galilee, practicing his art for two decades while working there as a shepherd and gardener. Stephenson moved back to England in the late 1960s. A prolific sculptor, he produced a large oeuvre engaging with a wide range of subject matter, from Jewish and refugee themes to animals and mythological works. Stephensons Homage to Soweto sculpture stands permanently in St Martin-in-the-Fields church in London
