Central Bank of Turkey, uniface hand painted essay of proposed 5 lira, probably for the 1930 Ataturk and later Inonu issues, green, olive and border lilac, outline and watercolour wash of Roumeli Hissar on the Bosphorous, denomination at lower right and bank title, incorrectly written as "BANK" and amended, upper right, pencil annotation marks in margins, (Pick 131 & TBB B209 for similar), previously mounted, Hand-painted by Leonard Douglas Fryer (1891-1965) during his time at Waterlow and Sons. Very similar to the scene employed for the 500 lira issue eventually printed by De La Rue. This design was perhaps one of a number proposed by different printers as the design with this scene went to tender. Interesting, aesthetically appealing and unique
