When he met Picasso, despite the constant flow of visitors to his Paris apartment, Beaton was able to photograph the artist alone in various rooms. The current lot shows the close bond between the two men, as Beaton remarked of Picasso when they first met, "he was as pleased to see me as if I had been a close friend".
