Leather album, 5 x 6.25 in., containing 35 cartes de visite, many hand colored and accompanied by beautifully hand-written identifications included on the album pages. Many credited to photographers and publishers in England, Brussels, France, Ireland, and beyond, including Mayall, C. Silvy, and Desmaisons. Identified subjects include: Portrait of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert together, credited to Mayall, London; two additional portraits of Queen Victoria, one by Ghemar Freres, Brussels, the other taken from life by Clifford, published by A. Marion & Co., London; approx. six portraits of Victoria's children, including Prince Alfred and Princess Alice, with credits to photographers such as Mayall and C. Silvy; Duke of Cambridge by Mayall; Princess Mary of Cambridge; Napoleon 3rd and family by Disderi; Pius IX by Desmaisons, Paris; Victor Emmanuel; Count Cavour; Emperor and Empress of Russia, each by Desmaisons; King of Prussia; Ex Queen of Naples by Desmaisons; Lord Palmerston by C. Silvy; Reverend J.M. Bellew; Crown Princess of Prussia; Queen of Denmark; Empress Eugenie; portrait by Mayall of an aged woman with inked note on mount verso that reads, "Sarah Scott Taylor, This, I think, is the best that has been taken, Nov. 27 / 70"; portrait by Magill, Belfast, of woman ink identified (or signed?) on verso as "E. Lansing, August 1871"; and unidentified subjects, including two men wearing uniforms, each credited to Schwarzschild & Co., Calcutta. Condition: Hand colored CDVs are vibrant, quite striking. Some with light corner/edge wear to mounts. Few with trimmed edges. Some with light toning. Some with some smudges/light soiling. Album is incomplete, as 13 spaces are empty. Two of the empty spaces include inked inscriptions for "Grand Duchess of Constantine" and "President Lincoln," but those photos are not included in this lot.
