Middelburg, H. vander Hellen, 4to: [40]-111-[1 bl.], 107-[pp. (toned, some traces of use, sm. tears or stains, a few tiny wormholes, hole in I1 [pt. 3 of I], bottom edge A2 [II] repaired) [bound with] ID. - Maechden-plicht ofte Ampt der ionck-vrouwen, in eerbaer liefde, aen-ghewesen door sinne-beelden = Officium puellarum, in castis amoribus, emblemate expressum. Ibidem, [16]-92-[1 bl.] pp. [and] ID. – Self-stryt, dat is Crachtighe beweginghe van vlees en gheest, poëtischer wijse verthoont in den persoon [...] van Joseph [...]. Ibidem, H. vander Hellen for J.P. van de Venne [32]-119-[1 bl.] pp. 3 works in 1 vol. Cont. overl. vellum (front joint splitting, head repaired). Good copy. First ed., 2nd issue of one of the major Dutch emblem books, and also Cats’ 1st emblem book, with emblems and texts in Dutch, Latin and French. The engravings in pts 2-3 of the 1st issue are here replaced by typographical text Woodcut ornament on titles. Engraved ills: 3 titles by F.
