Fine colored 29.25" Damascus barrels, sighting flats and ramrod pipes. Numbered 1 and 2 patent breeches with platinum plugs, signed Caron. Both are signed Caron Breuete Arged du Passage de l'Opera a Paris on the flats. Overall length of gun is 47.75 in. Original ebony ramrods, both brass tipped. Pair of French fashion locks, signed Caron Arq Roi Paris and decorated with a rope-engraved outline around each lock, as well as a fine scroll floral engraving and wildlife scenes. The remaining furniture is engraved en-suite. The trigger guard finials are numbered first 156 and second 157. All of the furniture is original and is a dark blue-to-black. Figured curly European half-stocks are numbered 1 and 2 in silver ovals and stamped 156 and 157 inside. German Baronial crown and coat of arms on each gun. The stocks are checkered at the wrists and mounted with sling swivels. Fine original mahogany case with brass mounts and a cartouche with an engraved German Baronial crown and coat of arms. The inside contains a removable tray for the second gun, complete with original orange velvet lining signed by Caron Arquebusier du Roi Paris. Case is complete with accessories, of which many are original, including one powder flask, leather shot flask, four tools, a rosewood cleaning rod and accessories. The first gun is in the main case, which contains a leather belt-type shot pouch, a powder flask, a tin of percussion caps, an English oiler, a number of wads and two screwdrivers, one fine and the other larger scale. Guns are marked and numbered by the maker throughout. Alphonse Carion worked from 1854-1874 and was gunmaker to the King of France. His address was Passage de L'Opera, 20 Galerie du Barometre, bd des Italiaens. He exhibited at the Grand Exhibition of Paris in 1835. Condition: First barrel retains ca 15% finish with heavier wear and second barrel retains ca 80% finish. First gun has color losses on the barrels and light pitting on the locks and furniture, otherwise with expected normal wear. There is a loss of veneer on the front left of the case as well as dings and light cracks on the lid.
