Beschreibung:

CARTER, JIMMY Group of sixteen letters to Congressman Ed Koch . Mostly Washington: 1976-77. Mostly typed letters variously signed in ink or autopen "Jimmy" or "Jimmy Carter" on White House or Carter's personal stationery. Usual folds, a few creases or marks, one letter with stains, contains auto-pen signatures; Together with two inauguration invitations. This early correspondence between Carter and the then New York Congressman includes four letters from December 1976/January 1977 preceding Carter's presidency in which he thanks Koch for recommendations for his administration. Once president, the two would discuss more pressing matters, as Carter writes in 1977 "If wasteful spending is to be curtailed, necessary programs financed, and the budget balanced by FY 1981, the Congress will have to assist me in eliminating needless and counterproductive projects". Another letter regards human rights in Northern Ireland while another hope for "a lasting peace in the Middle East ... Working together, we can see our goals become realities." C Estate of the Honorable Edward I. Koch
