Cette carte faite à St-Pétersbourg et copiée sur une autre établie à Pékin, correspond au début des explorations russes en Asie centrale, notamment à l'exploration de Prjévalsky. Des itinéraires tracés en rouge sur la carte indiquent vraisemblablement les routes des caravanes commerciales que suivaient également les explorateurs.
