The Wonderland Postage-Stamp Case.
Oxford: Emberlin and Son, 1889. Illustrated in color. Folded card with twelve pockets for stamps (95 x 70 mm). In original similarly illustrated original slip case and in the original printed envelope. Condition : envelope with chipping at extremities with slight repairs. [With:] Eight or Nine Wise Words About Letter Writing. Oxford: Emberlin and Son, [1890]. Original wrappers. 40 pp. (98 x 72 mm). With publisher’s ads on pp. 36-39. Condition : a few very faint spots not affecting text. scarce example of complete set comprising booklet, stamp-case and envelope as issued . The envelope cover describes it thusly: “This Case contains 12 separate pockets for Stamps of different values, and 2 Coloured Pictorial Surprises taken from ‘ Alice in Wonderland. ’ It is accompanied with the Booklet 8 or 9 Wise Words about Letter-Writing , by Lewis Carroll ” The envelope is Williams’ variant, with “N.B” and the letterpress rule across the long axis. Williams I: 60, 61.
