Carl Poul Petersen (d. 1977) Fork and Spoon Sterling Canada, mid 20th century Deep bowl with split wirework handle centered by a pod form with beadwork, fork with conforming decoration and three tines, impressed artists mark Hand Made Sterling date mark partially obscured, approx. total wt. 4.79 troy oz., lg. 7 1/2, 8 in. Note: Carl Poul Petersen was trained at George Jensen before emigrating to Montreal in 1929; Montreal Museum of Fine Arts retrospective exhibition catalogue exclaimed that 'Nature constituted an endless source of imagery for Petersen, who readily drew inspiration from Canada's natural environment. His was a conservative modernism, expressed in terms of the spare designs he employed for forms. His minimal concession to ornament can be seen in beautifully sculpted silver handles or finials for vessels and serving pieces.'
