Late 18th-century wrappers. A large copy WITH FINE PLATES of a full account by Carducci of the celebrations surrounding the marriage of Cosimo III de Medici (1642-1723) and Marguerite Louise d'Orléans (1645-1721) on June 20, 1661. It was AlessandroCarducci who designed the elaborate equestrian pageant around the theme of Atlas; one of its novelties was having the giant figure of Atlas sing. The pageant was staged behind the Palazzo Pitti (now Boboli gardens), opening with a parade of chariots representing the continents of Europe, Africa, America and Asia, and ending with tournaments and an equestrian ballet, the movements of which are detailed in the engravings.
