Title device, 103 etchings by and after Pieter Van der Borcht (Title and most of first quire repaired at upper margin, A7r, B7r and other leaves rather soiled, last two leaves with small marginal repairs.) Red morocco gilt by Roger de Coverly, gilt edges. Provenance : 'Des Anges' (inscription on title) -- S.A. Thompson Yates (bookplate) . 'A pictorial album intended to accompany and to visualise Canisus's Parvus catechismus , following the example of an earlier work by Joannes Baptista Romanus. 850 copies were printed, to be equally divided between Plantin and Philip Galle Funck p. 289: 'ce volume très élégamment présenté est devenu très rare'; Voet 884. HEINSIUS, Daniel (1580-1655). In obitum v. illustr. Iosephi Scaligeri . Leyden: Louis Elzevier and A. Cloucquius for the Officina Plantiniana Raphelengij, 1609. 4° (232 x 170mm). Title in red and black with engraved vignette, 3 engraved plates of the tomb at Verona, one folding, two engraved illustrations, one a full-page portrait of Justus Scaliger, the other showing the inscription on his tomb. Extra-illustrated with tipped in engraved portraits of Franciscus Raphelengius and Daniel Heinsius. (Lacks half-title and the last leaf with portrait of J.C.Scaliger and verses by Janus Dousa, marginal repairs and waterstains.) [Bound with:] BAUDIUS, D. Oratio funebris dicta ...
