A pair of very fine CANDELABRAS, probably St. Petersburg, Nicholas I, after Charles Percier´s design, for each of seven candles, gilt bronze, bases with paw feet, fronts with allegorical representations in relief of autumn and winter, the sides with relief decoration of Cupid and woman with lamb, pillars in the form of standing Nubian woman, bare bust, waist band with hanging hieroglyph roll, upper arms with laurel band, in each hand rods crowned by snakes bearing candleholders, handle with lotus leaves, baboon heads, candelabras with urn formed middle stem and baldachin, light arms in the form of winged caryatids with fable animals, height 84.5 cm Compare versions of the candelabras in imperial Summer Palace Pavlovsk in St. Petersburg, as well as in the palace Archangelskoye, outside Moscow LITERATURE A.
