Placenticeras meeki Cretaceous Bearpaw Formation, Alberta, Canada Brilliant greens and blues, with some red tones, distinguish this Canadian ammonite, which has been prepared in the richly toned gray-black matrix in which it was discovered. Ancestor to the modern chambered nautilus, ammonites have existed for nearly 330 million years, yet few fossil ammonites approach the beauty of specimens from this locality. The present nicely inflated specimen glows in dramatic contrast to the matrix. The brilliant opalescence of the finest specimens from the Bearpaw Formation is not seen in ammonites from any other locality. Ammonite diameter measuring 11 1/4 x 9in; Matrix measuring 20 x 15 x 2in
