Campanella (eigentlich Giovanni Domenico, 1568-1639 in Paris) war ein bedeutender italienischer (Natur-)Philosoph und Politiker. Als Teilnehmer der kalabrischen Revolte begann am 18. Januar 1600 in Neapel der Hochverratsprozess gegen Campanella. Die zunächst verhängte Todesstrafe wurde am 13. November 1602 in eine lebenslange Haftstrafe umgewandelt.Während der Haftzeit erschienen mehrere Bücher Campanellas auf der Grundlage von Manuskripten, die von Freunden und Besuchern nach Deutschland gebracht worden waren, so Prodromus philosophiae instaurandae (Frankfurt 1617), De sensu rerum et magiae (Frankfurt 1620), Von der Spanischen Monarchy (o. O. 1620 u. 1623) und Realis philosophiae epilogisticae partes quatuor (Frankfurt 1623). - Das Werk hatte eine bemerkenswerte Verbreitung in Europa, die Diskussionen und gegensätzliche Meinungen hervorrief. In dieser Abhandlung stellte Campanella seine Vision der natürlichen Welt als lebenden Organismus vor, dessen einzelne Bestandteile am Leben und an der Wahrnehmung beteiligt waren (Vgl. Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy). - Minimal gebräunt bzw. am Rand gelegentlich wurmspurig.

Tommaso Campanella (Stilo 1568 - Paris 1639) was one of the most important philosophers of the late Renaissance. The fundamental core of his thinking was concerned with the philosophy of nature (what would nowadays be called science), magic, political theory and natural religion. The treatise was published for the first time in Frankfurt in 1620 in a Latin translation that was reprinted in Paris in 1637. The work had a notable European diffusion, provoking discussions and contrasting opinions. In this treatise Campanella set out his vision of the natural world as a living organism, whose individual components partook of life and sensibility (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy). - Slightly browned and occasionally with worming at the margins.
