Campaigner for homosexual equality.- Carpenter (Edward, campaigner for homosexual equality and socialist writer, 1844-1929) Autograph Letter signed to William van der Weyd, President of the Thomas Paine Society, 2pp. & envelope, 8vo, Millthorpe, Holmesfield near Sheffield, 16th August 1910, concerning the movement founded by Francisco Ferrer, "I am obliged for your circular letter of 21 July re the Francisco Ferrer Assocn and am glad to hear you are proposing a brochure on the subject. I add a few lines on the other side, which you can make use of if you wish", folds. ⁂ Francisco Ferrer Guardia (1859-1909) was a radical freethinker, anarchist, and educationist behind a network of secular, private, libertarian schools in and around Barcelona. Ferrer was executed after a week of insurrection in Barcelona in 1909.
