Manuscript indenture on vellum signed by Calvert, a deed issued to Samuel Dickenson for a parcel of land in Talbot County, Maryland.
N.p. [but Annapolis?]: 21 May 1729. 1 p., large vellum membrane (345 x 522 mm). Signed by Calvert in the left margin, large paper-covered Great Seal of Maryland attached with ribbon. Docketed on verso. Condition : a few areas of loss, but the delicate seal intact. deed signed and sealed by the colonial governor of maryland relating to the land holdings of the family of patriot john dickinson Samuel Dickenson (1689-1760, alt. sp. Dickinson) was the father of John Dickinson the author of Letters from a Farmer in Pennsylvania , patriot and signer of the U.S. Constitution, and was among the largest land holders in Maryland and Delaware. This deed confirms the purchase of 113 acres in Talbot County. Benedict Leonard Calvert (1700-1732) was the governor of the province of Maryland from 1727 to 1731, having been appointed by the Proprietor: his brother Charles Calvert 5th Baron Baltimore. The Calvert family proprietorship of Maryland had been dissolved during the Glorious Revolution, but had been restored to the 5th Lord Baltimore shortly after his father's death.
