Provenance : Pietro Ginori-Conti (armorial bookplate). A fine group of the more ephemeral works by and associated with Callot and his work for the Medici court. The fourth work, although related through the Medici connection, is not illustrated by Callot. The most famous image is undoubtedly The Fan , in the third work, so-called because 500 impressions of the print were attached to actual fans, with printed verses relating to the 'battle' on the verso, and distributed to ladies. Despite its shape it seems that the plate was not designed for this purpose.
